The long-standing tension between the premier talent hub Ground Up Chale and its former star, Kwesi Arthur, has moved to the courtroom. In a move that has sent shockwaves through the industry, a Writ of Summons was issued on January 27, 2026, confirming that legal action has officially started in the High Court of Justice.
The lawsuit follows emotional social media posts by the rapper on January 21, 2026, in which he alleged financial exploitation, threats, and claims that the label was “blocking” his independent music. Ground Up Chale and founder Glen Boateng have now fired back, seeking millions in damages for what they claim are defamatory and harmful statements.
The plaintiffs, Glen Boateng and Ground Up Chale Ltd, are seeking GH¢5 million in general damages, GH¢2 million for lost business, and GH¢3 million in aggravated damages, plus an injunction to delete his posts and issue an apology.
The High Court has issued a strict command to Emmanuel Kwesi Danso Arthur Jnr (Kwesi Arthur):
- Entry of Appearance: The rapper is commanded to enter an appearance within eight days after being served with this writ.
- Warning of Default: If he fails to respond within this window, the court may give judgment in his absence without further notice.
- The Lead Counsel: The document was issued under the authority of the Chief Justice of Ghana, P. Baffoe-Bonnie.
