Afrobeats heavyweights King Promise and Mr Eazi have officially released their highly anticipated single “That Way,” complete with a vibrant music video that’s already generating massive buzz across Africa and the diaspora.
The track dropped on February 6, 2026, via emPawa Africa, marking a key moment in the rollout of their forthcoming collaborative album See What We’ve Done, slated for release on March 11, 2026. Described as a smooth Afrofusion anthem full of emotion and nostalgia, “That Way” blends heartfelt melodies with infectious rhythms, showcasing the seamless chemistry between the Ghanaian and Nigerian stars who have long been friends and frequent collaborators.
What sets the song apart is its clever interpolation of the Backstreet Boys’ timeless 1999 classic “I Want It That Way.” The iconic acoustic guitar riff and melodic essence of the boyband hit are masterfully reworked into a contemporary Afrobeats framework, infused with highlife undertones and modern production flair. Producers GuiltyBeatz and JAE5, both renowned for shaping global African sounds, deliver a polished, feel-good beat that bridges generations.
Mr Eazi reflected on the inspiration, noting that Backstreet Boys and Westlife were staples in West African childhoods. “Once I heard the beat with that interpolation, I was like ‘Jeez, we gotta do this one,’” he shared. King Promise added that the confidence to flip such a legendary track paid off, turning nostalgia into fresh magic.
The official music video, directed by Charlie Rees and filmed in London, embraces a luxurious, high-flying aesthetic. It features private jets, proud displays of the Nigerian and Ghanaian flags, and cinematic airport hangar scenes, a playful homage to the aviation theme of the original Backstreet Boys video. The visuals perfectly capture the duo’s star power and brotherly vibe.
Since its premiere, “That Way” has quickly climbed charts, reaching a peak of No. 2 on Ghana’s Apple Music Afrobeats chart. The YouTube video has already surpassed 500,000 views in just days, with fans praising the clever sample flip, silky vocals, and overall feel-good energy.
